Ecosia
FreeGreen browser and search app from Ecosia that uses search revenue to fund tree planting.
About Ecosia
Ecosia is a browser and search app from Ecosia GmbH, a company that says it uses its profits to plant trees and fund climate projects. It is available for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.
Search is the core of the product, with Ecosia's own search engine set as the default. The company publishes financial reports and describes its operations as certified B Corp. The browser includes basic tracker blocking and a counter that shows how many searches you have made. The app is free, and Ecosia earns money from search ads.
It suits people who want to support environmental projects through everyday browsing and do not mind using a search engine that relies on partner results. Some users prefer Google's results and find the interface less customisable than mainstream browsers. The Windows build in the winget manifest was last dated May 2026, noticeably older than the mobile apps, so check the official site for the current desktop version.
The point is the search engine rather than the browser itself. If you prefer another browser, you can set Ecosia as its default search instead.
