Microsoft Edge
FreeMicrosoft's Chromium-based browser with Windows integration, Microsoft account sync and built-in shopping and reading tools.
About Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge is the web browser from Microsoft. Since 2020 it has been built on the Chromium engine, so it runs most Chrome extensions and web apps. It is installed with Windows and is also available for macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
Edge adds its own features on top of Chromium, including vertical tabs, collections, a reading mode, built-in PDF tools and sleeping tabs that reduce memory use. Signing in with a Microsoft account syncs favourites, passwords and settings between devices. The Android listing mentions in-app purchases, and Microsoft promotes its Copilot features inside the browser.
Edge also offers a built-in coupon and price comparison tool and a split-screen view. It suits Windows users and anyone who works with Microsoft 365 services, as well as people who want Chromium compatibility with a different set of defaults than Chrome. Edge is free to use. As with most mainstream browsers, it includes Microsoft services and recommendations that can be turned down in the settings.
Edge ships with Windows, so check that it is not already installed before downloading. Review the recommendation and Copilot settings if you prefer a plainer start page.
