Viber
FreeA messaging and calling app from Rakuten with chats, communities and low-cost international calls.
About Viber
Viber is a messaging and calling app owned by Rakuten. It offers private and group chats, voice and video calls, communities and channels, stickers and disappearing messages. A paid credit service called Viber Out lets you call landlines and mobiles internationally.
The app runs on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux, and your phone number is the account. Messaging is free to use, while Viber Out and some other extras are paid. The store data lists in-app purchases and, on Android, ads. Google Play lists more than a billion downloads and the iOS app lists about 831,000 ratings.
It suits users in markets where Viber is widely used, and anyone who wants to make occasional cheap calls to numbers outside the app. Viber states that chats and calls are end-to-end encrypted by default, but you should confirm that in the app. Because it needs a phone number, contacts must install Viber to message you for free.
Free calls only work between Viber users. Check Viber Out rates in the app before calling landlines.
