OsmAnd
FreeAn offline map and navigation app based on OpenStreetMap, with extensive routing, track and plugin options.
About OsmAnd
OsmAnd is an offline map and navigation app built on OpenStreetMap data. You download country or region maps, then search, plan and navigate without a connection, with options that account for preferred roads and vehicle dimensions.
It is known for depth. Routes can take inclines into account, tracks can be recorded and organised, and plugins add features such as contour lines, nautical maps and, in the latest iOS update, an astronomy star map. The same update lists a redesigned My Places screen, a rebuilt Plan a Route tool, terrain shadow visualisation and a bicycle width setting to avoid narrow cycleways.
It suits hikers, cyclists, sailors and drivers who want fine control over maps and routes. The app is free to install with limited map downloads, and a paid subscription or one-time purchase unlocks unlimited downloads and extra features, as indicated by the in-app purchases listed on Google Play. The interface is dense, so expect a learning curve.
Powerful but busy. If you only want simple offline directions, Organic Maps is easier to learn.
