Mullvad VPN
PaidPrivacy-focused VPN from a Swedish company with open-source apps, anonymous accounts and flat pricing.
About Mullvad VPN
Mullvad is a VPN service run by Mullvad VPN AB in Sweden. It offers apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, and its apps are open source. The company describes itself as an open-source commercial VPN service.
It stands out for its privacy approach. Accounts are created with a randomly generated number rather than an email address, so no personal details are needed, and the service has long accepted anonymous payment methods. It supports WireGuard, has a kill switch, split tunnelling on some platforms and options for quantum-resistant tunnels. Desktop updates in recent releases added Ukrainian as a language and made macOS updates smaller.
Mullvad suits privacy-minded users who value transparency and simple, unchanging pricing rather than a long list of extras. It is a paid service, with no free tier, and the store listings show a free download with in-app purchases. It does not market streaming unblocking, so it is not the best fit for that. Its Google Play rating is lower than most rivals.
Excellent for privacy but not aimed at streaming. Read the apps' split tunnelling limits for your platform.
