Discord
FreeA voice, video and text chat app built around communities, servers and gaming.
About Discord
Discord is a chat platform organised into servers, which are communities made up of text channels, voice channels and threads. It began in gaming but is now used by clubs, creators, study groups and open source projects as a place to talk, share screens and stream.
You can send messages, join voice and video calls, share your screen, use bots and customise a profile and server roles. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and in a browser. The app is free to use, and an optional Nitro subscription adds perks such as larger uploads and profile customisation.
It suits groups that want a persistent, always-open space with fine-grained moderation tools rather than a simple private chat. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted by default, so it is better for communities than for sensitive conversation. Google Play lists more than 500 million downloads and the iOS app lists about 3.6 million ratings.
Review the privacy and safety settings on first launch, especially direct message filtering and server invite rules.
